Pressurised Metered Dose Inhaler (pMDI) Formulation

pMDIs are still used extensively for existing and new chemical entities, despite the rise in popularity of pMDIs.

The formulations use HFA as propellant and have the API either dissolved (with or without the aid of solubilizing excipients) or suspended in the liquefied propellant.

Issues here surround adhesion to containers and value components, and crystal growth through Ostwald ripening. Leaching from container components must be studied. It is important to understand the materials properties very well for these formulations in order to maintain a good stable formulation.
